Key Event Terminology
International Chili Society (ICS) – The organization that sanctions District, Regional and State Cookoffs and produces the World's Championship Chili Cookoff.
World’s Championship Chili Cookoff (WCCC) – Cooks who win at least two District, one Regional or one State Cookoff qualify for the World's Championship Chili Cookoff that takes place in October. The WCCC has three categories: Traditional Red Chili, Chili Verde and Salsa.
Last Chance – The Last Chance Cookoff takes place on the first day of the WCCC and 10 winning cooks will qualify to continue on and cook for the Grand Prize in Traditional Red Chili.
Restaurant Division – The WCCC holds a restaurant division competition that provides on-site food vendors an opportunity to win their own chili title.
People’s Choice – Announced each day of the WCCC, the People’s Choice winner is decided by sampling by the public who cast ballots to select their favorites.
Sampling Kits – Given out with admission. The kits contain everything that a patron needs to sample chili from the cooks, including an official ballot to vote in the People’s Choice competition.
Mr. Hot Sauce- Contest held on Saturday at the World's Championship Chili Contest. The contest is open to any male who attends the cookoff on Saturday. Sign up forms will be available on site. The winner is chosen by audience applause.
Miss Chili Pepper- Contest held on Saturday at the World's Championship Chili Contest. The contest is open to any female who attends the cookoff on Saturday. Sign up forms will be available on site. The winner is chosen by audience applause.
Shoot N’ Holler - Contest held on Saturday at the World's Championship Chili Contest. The contest is open to anyone over 21 who attends the cookoff on Saturday and is brave enough to have a shot of tequila and holler as loud and as long as they can. Sign up forms will be available on site. The winner is chosen by audience applause.

Chiliheads – How the cooks, judges and cookoff supporters affectionately refer to themselves!
No Beans – It might not seem like “terminology” but it is important to know that competition chili like that cooked by the ICS does not allow beans.
